Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24 72, in Long Beach, California. DuVernay was encouraged by her aunt Denise at the age of an infant. She worked as a night nurse to allow her aunt the space she required during her day time to enjoy the pleasures of literature, art as well as theatre. She showed DuVernay to the film of 1961 West Side Story and DuVernay fell in love with it. DuVernay was taught by her mother that the arts can serve as a tool for activism. DuVernay's mother also had social consciousness and taught DuVernay how to convey messages by means of artwork. DuVernay was a resident of Compton during the majority of her childhood, but she was able to spend summers with her father's extended family in Lowndes County Alabama. The father of DuVernay's recollects seeing the historic march of the Civil Rights Movement over the Edmund Pettus Bridge. It was in Selma Alabama, a neighboring city. DuVernay was influenced by her time in Selma and decided to make a documentary about the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay received her Saint Joseph High School diploma in Lakewood California. In the year 1990 she completed her studies at the Saint Joseph High School located in Lakewood, California. DuVernay began to produce for broadcast journalism while she was still in university. She started as an intern with CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was able to recall being assigned the responsibility of looking over the residence and scrutinizing the trash of one of members of the juries. The work she was assigned to did not leave her satisfied by journalism and she decided to shift her focus towards the industry of public relations. DuVernay was offered a job straight from college, working as a young publicist for a studio. She started The DuVernay Agency, her PR firm, in 1999. Besides PR, the agency developed several lifestyle websites like Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective Urban Eye, HelloBeautiful.
